Best Natural Remedies For Your Hangover

November 18, 2019 by Dreasy

Hangovers can be nasty and in some unfortunate days, can be downright cruel and satanic.

We're not masochists. But time and time again, we remind ourselves not to drink AFTER we experience the pain.

Do we deserve it? Probably. Maybe next time we'll learn to drink responsibly.

But until that day comes, it's still super fun to spend time with friends and colleagues. Just wasting the day away with good booze on our hands and good stories to share.

We know the struggle. Really. It's a never-ending cycle of fun and pain, that's why we aim to ease your hangover struggles by preventing it.

On that note, we compiled all the best natural hangover cures and even tried them to test their validity.

Coconut Water

Milk Thistle

Ginger

Turmeric

Banana

Tomato Juice

Prickly Pear

Fermented Foods

1. Take a glass of coconut water.

Splitting headache during a hangover is most likely caused by dehydration. And a simple sip of good ol' water won't satisfy your parched lips and tongue.

One cool glass of coconut water is packed with electrolytes that will hydrate your body. It contains more electrolytes than your favorite sports drink and even gives other nutritional benefits.

FUN FACT: Hydration is not the only function of a coconut drink. Electrolytes that you will gain from one drinking can help to stabilize your blood's irregular pH levels caused by alcohol.

OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: After a heavy night out, we tested coconut water and compared it to a sports drink. We drank fresh from the fridge. Not a good idea because of brain freeze! Coconut water did feel refreshing and tasted amazingly sweet. We feel a sports drink hydrates just as good. Overall 3/5.

2. Give your liver some love with Milk Thistle.

Milk thistle is a known natural hangover cure that helps protect your liver. We all know that our liver receives the most damage when consuming alcohol so this is a herb that you must try even on days that you don't have a hangover.

Silymarin, which is found in milk thistle's seeds, has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps with eliminating free radicals and toxins caused by alcohol.

FUN FACT: Milk thistle is around for hundreds of years as a known herbal cure for liver and gallbladder diseases. Why not try it when history backs its validity, right?

OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: We debated on how to do it - whether the old fashion squeeze-the-milk-fluid-from-leaves way or the modern buy-a-milk-thistle-supplement-from-a-pharmacy way. We decided on the latter, drank it before consuming alcohol, woke up with a slight hangover. Overall 2/5.

3. Make a tea out of a ginger.

Hangovers are packaged with nausea and upset stomach. Ginger can help alleviate these hangover symptoms. Take it as tea, ale or fresh slices, it will help lessen the feelings of nausea and dizziness and will help soothe your stomach.

FUN FACT: Feeling bloated and gassy? One cup of ginger tea might ease your gassy stomach so you don't have to endure a smelly room.

OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: We've had good results from taking ginger that we even mention it in our ultimate list of hangover cures. Overall 4/5

4. Try a famous Southeast Asian spice.

Turmeric is not only used to give life to bland food but can also ease your hangover symptoms. Curcumin, its active ingredient, lessens the effects of acetaldehyde, the toxins caused by alcohol consumption. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that help with reducing feelings of headache and fatigue.

FUN FACT: Turmeric is a famous hangover solution in Japan and the Japanese are known for their "drinking meetings", so if they swore by this, we might as well listen.

OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: We mixed hot water with one teaspoon of turmeric powder, one teaspoon of honey, and a sprinkle of cinnamon powder. According to studies, black pepper can improve absorption of curcumin so we added some of that. We tried the turmeric tea and we felt it eased upset stomachs. Some felt their hangover lessened, some claimed nothing changed. Overall 3/5.

5. Have your dose of potassium.

A night of alcohol significantly lowers your body's level of potassium, making you weak and fatigued.  Bananas can replenish your body with its much-needed potassium so you'll have the energy to function throughout the day.

FUN FACT: Aside from potassium, bananas can help ease headache and upset stomach by replenishing your body with essential nutrients like vitamin B6 and magnesium.

OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: By far the easiest ingredient to acquire in our list. We tried to make a hearty breakfast with a mix of oatmeal, honey and bananas. We did feel a lot better with full stomachs. Overall 3/5.

6. Make one Virgin Mary.

Virgin Mary is the antithesis of the drink Bloody Mary. Just remove the vodka and what you've got is a simple nutritious tomato juice that might cure your worst hangovers. It helps with replenishing your glucose levels, giving your body the energy to function.

OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: We attempted a different approach and drank two shots of tomato juice every time we finished one glass of beer. Got mind-blowing results in the morning! Overall 4/5.

Conclusion

A hangover can be relieved by natural cures that you can easily get from your kitchen. You don't need to do complicated steps to create a smoothie, a juice or a tea from these natural ingredients, and sometimes consuming it raw is the way to go!

If you want to have a definite hangover prevention result, one pack of Dreasy can do the trick. With this, you don't have to look for different ingredients in the market as we have concocted them into one easy-to-consume blend.
